Park History / 1930s – 1950s
From the opening in 1913 through to the outbreak of the devastating First World War, Grovelands was an elegant Park but was then used as a military hospital. By the time of the Second World War the park was used for anti aircraft gun emplacements and for growing vegetables until peace came with D Day, when once more the park was a place of fun.
