Dinosaurs are coming
From July 24th to August 10th the woods of Grovelands Park will be taken back in time to the Ice Age with an invasion of Dinosaurs. Jurassic Encounter a fun educational event will take place featuring animatronic replicas of the prehistoric creatures that once would have roamed these ancient woods.
It will be held installed mainly in the wood area between the Branscombe entrance and the current adventure playground structure, with some larger exhibits out on the showground area along from the basketball court. The area will be fenced, will have 24-hr security, and the organisers are providing stewards, port-a-loos and other facilities on the showground.
A dedicated cleaning team will patrol during and after the event.
Traffic management will be in place and no special parking facilities will be provided – the majority of people are expected to travel by public transport. To book tickets the website for this event is http://jurassicencounter.U.K.
Although this event is not being organised by the Friends of Grovelands Park we have worked with the organisers to mitigate the disruption to the park and the enjoyment of the park by regular users but as we have not had a big event for 8 years we felt on balance that this is a good thing for the community, especially the young people who have been restricted by Covid for so long.
There have been queries (and some strange theories!) about the event on local social media, but the event is confined to the wooded area outlined above and the remainder of the park will be completely accessible.
While the organisers expect a fair number of people, we do not anticipate there will be any long-term damage to the park, which after the event will be left as it was found. The Friends of Grovelands Park have been given an undertaking from LBE that a portion of the money made from this event will be put back into improvements to the park so on balance we think this a win win project.
